I bought the Pro3 because I wanted to replace an existing wired camera system that records to local disk, but cannot be accessed remotely (at least not very easily).

Daylight picture quality: Good, the camera is clear and a massive improvement from my old system
Night picture quality: Good, but you need to beware of camera positioning. The IR LEDs are very bright, so if you mount the camera in a corner - like I have - you need to angle it a good distance from any nearby walls or other items as it's very susceptible to reflections. In my case, a drainpipe that was on the far side of the picture was lit up so brightly that you could only see about 10 feet from the camera.

Other than that, it seems to be a pretty decent security camera system, although the wireless strength from the base unit is pretty poor, so if you have a larger area to cover you could struggle.

Annoyances (strap in, it's rant time)
- Arlo activated my demo subscription as soon as I created my account (or added my hub), meaning I had no opportunity to try the system without the subscription enhancements before the return period unless I cancelled the demo and lost it altogether.
- Only the primary account holder has access to recordings made locally, no-one else sharing the account can have access.
- The primary account can only log in to one device at a time, so if you decide to get around the previous limitation by sharing an account in the household be prepared to be repeatedly logging in to the app.
- The hub can format disks plugged into it, but *only* if they are using an MBR partition map. The documentation doesn't tell you that and everything looks OK and works OK until the storage is full and then you can't do anything (not even eject the device safely).
- Activity zones only work for cameras connected permanently to power, so if you use their solar panel to charge a camera the zones will only work while the sun is out.
- The hub does not provide any kind of local access capabilities. If the Arlo web servers are down, you're in the same boat as everyone just using the cloud only option (your recordings will still be stored locally, though).

To summarise: It's basically a good system, but without a subscription it's worse than my old system which I could have just replaced with the latest version for less than £200 and being asked to fork out £96/year just to get back to that level of functionality after already spending over £500 on something that should have been better feels like a bit of a slap in the face.

I want more cameras, but I think I'll buy them from Ring, at least they have cheap hardware to offset the subscription prices.

I'm going with two stars at the moment, for me this system hasn't delivered because of the huge limitations you get if you don't take out a subscription after spending a lot of money on the basic hardware - it really should be much better.

If they fix some of these problems in future updates then I'll update the review and my rating, until then I'd stay away unless you have deep pockets.

Zunächst zu den Rahmenbedingungen:
Ich war auf der Suche nach kabellosen Überwachungskameras mit gutem Akku, guter Bildqualität und vielen Komforteinstellungsmöglichkeiten. Durch Empfehlung von Freunden (die die Pro 2 haben) und Rezensionen bei YouTube, habe ich mich für die Pro 3 entschieden.
Ich habe mir für (absolut überteuerte, s. unten) 555€ bei Amazon die Arlo Pro 3 im 2er Pack bestellt. Die Lieferung ging gewohnt schnell und komfortabel vonstatten.

Ich benutze die Arlo-App mit dem iPhone 11 Pro und dem iPad Pro.

Zunächst zu den positiven Aspekten:
1. Die Kamera ist schön designt (sie gefällt mir von allen kabellosen Überwachungskameras am besten) und wirkt hochwertig verarbeitet.

2. Der Akku scheint (seit gestern in Betrieb) ausreichend lange zu halten und lädt vor allem schnell auf.

3. Die Installation geht relativ schnell.

4. Die App bietet an sich viele Einstellungsmöglichkeiten (Aktivitätszonen, Cloud- und lokale Speicherung. Mikrofon und Gegensprecht, Sirene, etc. pp.).

5. Die Bewegungssensorik funktioniert prinzipiell.

Nun zu den negativen Aspekten:

1. Die Nachtsicht funktioniert nicht. Zwar haben die Kameras eine LED die gutes Licht bei Dunkelheit und Bewegung gibt und so für Nachtaufnahmen sorgt, außerdem haben wir einen Bewegungsmeldern der ohnehin für Licht sorgt, so dass die Kamera dann aufnehmen kann, wenn etwas passiert, aber wenn man sich den Livestream anschaut, ohne, dass Licht eingeschaltet ist, sieht man so gut wie nichts.

2. Das Abomodell:
Abgesehen davon, dass es viel zu teuer ist und die reinste Abzocke (ähnlich wie der Preis für die Kameras an sich, aber dazu beim Fazit mehr), gibt es die die Aktivitätszonen, mit denen man die Bereiche einstellen kann, in denen die Kamera auf Bewegungen reagiert, nur im Abo. Soweit so gut, wenn sie denn funktionieren würden und man das Geld zahlen wollte jedenfalls. Aber: sie funktionieren nicht mal ansatzweise. Stattdessen wird alles aufgezeichnet, wo sich etwas bewegt (und wahlweise auch bei Geräuschen, was ich aber ausgeschaltet habe, da sonst ständig etwas aufgezeichnet werden würde). Dieses Problem lässt sich nicht beheben, leider habe ich zu spät gesehen, dass das Arlo Supportforum voll von ähnlichen Beschwerden ist, und das schon 2017-2019.... Übrigens so gut wie alle ungelöst. Außerdem funktioniert die nur im Abomodell verfügbare Tier-, Fahrzeug- und Personenerkennung nicht. Stattdessen bekomme ich auf mein Handy einen Alarm, dass ein Tier vor dem Haus sein soll, obwohl sich nur Pflanzen im Wind bewegen.... Autos wollte ich gar nicht erfasst haben, trotzdem wird, und das AUCH obwohl die Strasse KEINE Aktivitätszone ist, jedes vorbeifahrende Auto aufgezeichnet... ich könnte ko*z**.

3. Es kommt oft genug vor, dass mein Handy im Standbymodus eine Bewegungsmeldung angezeigt bekommt, wenn ich dann aber in die App gehe, findet sich nichts in der Bibliothek, das ich mir anschauen könnte... Ganz schwach!

4. Die Verzögerung, mit der Bewegungen passieren und dann gemeldet, und geschweige denn mit Glück in der Bibliothek aufgezeichnet werden, ist enorm (von 12 Sekunden bis zu 5 Minuten). So im Zweifelsfall absolut unbrauchbar.

Fazit:
Die Pro-Aspekte scheinen in der Quantität leicht zu überwiegen, jedoch ist die Qualität für den angebotenen Preis und besonders für das Abomodell eine absolute Frechheit und grenzt an Abzocke, besonders, da sich alle beschriebenen Probleme nicht lösen lassen.
Es reicht aus, sich von anderen Firmen günstigere Modelle ohne Kabel zu besorgen, die das, was die Pro 3 von Arlo kann, auch können (also reine Aufnahmen und Speicherung von Bewegungen, ohne Schnickschnack). Die ganzen Features von Arlo, die beworben werden und dazu oft nur im Abo (wenn überhaupt, das ist das Traurige) funktionieren, funktionieren ja ohnehin oft nicht, daher kann man sich diese überteuerte und an Dreistigkeit agierende Firma und ihr Produkt leider lieber sparen.

Echt schade!

This system has some great features, two way audio, night vision, great field of view, alarm and cloud storage; all fantastic. However, I returned this camera system and bought a hardwired system instead. The battery life was the main problem, each camera ran out of power in 24 hours which doesn’t work if you plan to go away from home at any point. The batteries take 4 hours to recharge too. There is also a very long delay between the motion sensor activating and recording of the image commencing, long enough for someone to walk through the frame unobserved. It has a really useful feature that enables it to pair with Alexa, but the time delay makes real time viewing of cameras almost impossible (unless the criminals are very cooperative). They are really easy to remove From the wall too, which sort of defeats the object. My broadband is good and customer service didn’t help much, suggesting I fit a dedicated power supply. In summary, it’s a great idea that didn’t work out for me.

So I have had the Arlo system for just over a month now.
The good:
They look sturdy and weather doesn't seem to bother them
Picture quality is good, no complaints there.
Pretty decent Wi-Fi reception...
Battery life is great when you don't do any recording or if the camera is in a zone with limited movements. (see below for more)
The bad:
It doesn't support HomeKit secure video.. so you either have to buy their plan or attach a hard drive.
Homekit integration is not fantastic either. It works but it takes time for the camera to pickup connection with Homekit and you need the Arlo hub.
Battery life is TERRIBLE for active areas. I have to charge my camera every week for the front of the house. (near a road)
Why don't I use zones you ask? Because they don't work! I've got move zones setup yet I receive notifications for every bit of movement outside of the zones.
Ideally I would like to be able to set timed "movement" recordings. However it's either on or off.. no in between.
The interesting part is also that the detections will say: Movement detected, animal detected or person detected. So why not allow me to apply a filter to not get notifications on movement or animal and only on person?

Would I buy this again; absolutely NOT.
For what I want to use this for this does not work. As soon as I find a slightly better (for example a wireless Logitech circle view) these things will end up on eBay...

These are a good mid range camera. They have great video quality and the microphone is very sensitive

If you are upgrading from Arlo or Arlo pro these are worth it but from Arlo Pro 2 you are just paying extra for the Spotlight and slight increase in video quality.

At 2k the video is very clear, there is a wide angle lens option so you can see more. Can’t fault them for their night vision and colour night vision (using the spotlight) it is also very clear.

The sensitivity has been improved over the older model which is great, sometimes a little too sensitive but this can be tweaked.

As with all Arlo cameras, they are very easy to install. You get one magnetic mount and one screw mount, it’s a shame you didn’t get two of each. These will work with any existing screw mount you may have.

These are wireless cameras but I suggest you get the charge wire so that you don’t have to compromise on any settings.

pro: buona qualità sia della visione che della tenuta all'acqua all'aperto. Batteria robusta abbastanza duratura nell'uso quotidiano.
contro: da questa release del prodotto la ditta obbliga l'acquirente, trascorso il periodo di prova, a pagare un costo continuo e periodico (abbonamento di 3 euro al mese per singola telecamera)per controllare le immagini che hanno prodotto l'allarme: tipicamente il gatto di passaggio. Senza questa possibilità l'utente resta sempre nel dubbio su cosa abbia causato l'allarme e se l'eventuale malintenzionato si sia nascosto per continuare l'effrazione. Uso un sistema Arlo precedente (senza questa limitazione) e ho sempre usato lo screenshot per rendermi conto della situazione. La funzione di screenshot (in realtà un filmato di pochi secondi) significa semplicemente avere a disposizione le immagini dell' "incidente" solo per un breve periodo di tempo per un controllo al volo senza la qual cosa l'utente resta in forse. Ora, oltre a tutto, non posso nemmeno aggiungere telecamere al mio sistema per potenziarlo né per sostituire una telecamera fuori uso. Mi sembra una limitazione veramente forte da sottolineare e segnalare.

Kameras sind sehr teuer, lassen sich aber leicht installieren, Bildqualität ist gut, auch Öffnungswinkel und Nacht Funktion. Die Kamerahalterungen sind ok, jedoch mit der einen Schraube zur Kamera alles andere als stabil.
Wenn die Kamera täglich eine Katze durch die Wiese laufen registriert, ist die Batterie nach rund 3 Monaten leer.
Wenn die Kamera Tiere (Pferde) beobachten soll, ist die Batterie trotz Solarmodul (direkte Sonne) am selben Tag leer.
Solarmodul bringt nur was bei langer direkter Sonneneinstrahlung.
Arlo Smart: Unverschämt finde ich die verstecken Kosten von rund 9€/Monat, 108€/Jahr für das Cloud speichern und Bereich Definieren. Eigentlich ein Preis zum Leasen der ganzen Kameras.
Fehler bei der Abbuchung mit dem Probeabo. Kontaktversuche bleiben unbeantwortet.
Darum kann ich das sonst gute System nicht empfehlen und rate davon ab.

I received my Arlo pro 3 two camera set but inside there is different fitting for each camera. There is one magnetic mount fitting and one with the screw fitting. The response from the Arlo customer agent was simply to say that it is expected as the two camera set is packaged in that way. This is not mentioned anywhere in the product description and it should be. If I want the same fitting for both cameras I would need to pay for the fitting which is also not a good product design.

I decide to invest in security cameras after our catalytic convertor was stolen while the car we parked outside the house. I did a bit of research and plumped for these after reading reviews, I liked the option for local storage as other cameras are rendered useless if you internet connection fails.

Set-up was (or at least seemed) straight forward, the provide brackets are not secure so you probably want to set the cameras fairly high to avoid them being nicked! The cameras seemed to work well, connected to easily (Arlo created its own network from the supplied Hub) and picture quality was good.

Then the problems started.

The cameras are advertised as having up to 6 months battery life, but I was getting 8-10 days. After some digging around online and eventually talking to a helpful Arlo support person I found that this was mainly due to the default sensitivity setting being 80% when 40-50% works fine. So I'm now getting good life out of one camera - it's draining at less than 1% a day. So why is the default setting set at battery-draining levels?

However, the 2nd camera is not lasting so well. That's because it getting a weaker signal from the hub. Even in a typical 1920s semi-detached house, it's proving difficult to find a location for the hub the gives a good signal to both cameras (one at the front of the house, one at the back). I'm going to have to move the back one to try and improve battery life.

Part of the problem with getting the settings right is that the supplied app is poor, not designed around user needs. Camera settings may be found under the individual cameras, or in the Hub settings, or in Mode (which is where the sensitivity setting are buried). Makes it quite difficult to understand what's going on.

As mentioned I wanted to use the facility to record locally. Initially, I plugged in a 1TB USB drive but found that in fact the Hub can’t cope with anything bigger than 64GB. Which is fine, but clearer guidance would have been good.

My kit came with a 3 month free trial of the Arlo Smart subscription, but I wasn't concerned that I was asked for card details when I went through the set-up process as free trials often do this. However, I later discovered that this had created a second subscription which they were charging me for at the same time as I was having the 'free' trial. I'm still in dispute with Arlo to try and get that money back or a credit towards a future subscription.

My trial has now ended and so I'm using the cameras without a subscription. This is a frustrating experience. I'm getting spurious error messages saying power has been disconnect from the camera even though they are battery powered and charged. The viewing local recordings is flaky and the ability to manually record seems to have disappeared.

Overall my Arlo experience has been a frustrating one with too many issues. I couldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Upgraded from an Arlo HD Wireless Home Security Camera with Base station (2015) to an Arlo Pro 3 with base Station (2019).
Happy to see some good improvements. Here is my full list of Pros and Cons

Pros:
- Nice picture (wider and with more details than the previous camera!) and bidirectional sound (in and out), inclusing hability to talk to someone via the camera.
- Nice motion sensor sensitivy calibration via led on the camera. While adjusting motion sensor, led blinks when it detects motion which is good. This way there is no need to try each sensitivity level by via normal video detection and recording. More straightforward
- Good to have activity Zones and ability to filter/not filter persons, animals, moving objetcs, etc. These 2 features help to receive less notifications. Note that this will not help increasing battery life, because this are all post recording steps (processed in arlo servers)
- subscription costs seem fair enough to me. These are devices that are constantly filling their servers with data. There are streaming services that are more expensive such as Netflix, etx. Without substription we loose many features including level of security (someone can break your local storage, but hardly the arlo servers :) ) , so worth to give the extra.

Cons:
- Arlo seems to follow the same steps as other companies such as Apple or Sony. They try make things as proprietary as possible. For me thats sad, and would be happier if i see arlo following more standards like batteries (2AA or 3AA for example), chargers(for AA and AAA bateries, for example), etc. If some of this breaks, we will need to buy all these expensive parts which is not something that would be really needed. Its more a strategy for profits, but i really prefer standards and reusability.
- would be interesting to have the 2 features (activity zones and notifications by animals, persons, objects etc) implemented by hardware, or somehow smarter, i.e., making the camara to do these steps and save battery by not recorsding, streaming, etc. Hopefully this will be considered in the future (but could increase hardware costs i believe)
- cameras are a bit expensive if without discount, but nice when with discount (bought mine with 55% discount, 2 caneras and base station, around 250eur. Not bad if you campare for example with smarphone that can easily reach these these amounts. Good to give a bit extra instead of cheaper security cameras.

Extra Notes:
- this security system is good, many times people complain because they dont study/explore the system enough. For example, while doing my experiments, noticed after a good time that t was triggering way more than it should (even with the record areas defined), because i also had the system armed when sound was detected. In my case i just disabled the sound.
- having the camera in a good and strategic place and well positioned is essencial. Should be in a place hard to reach and placed in a way where the sensor will detect meaninfully most of the times.

Overall a good product
