Well what can I say, the last time I bought a epi later was about 10 years ago and I tried it once and it was so painful I binned it, so if been debating whether to get one for ages as I thought I wouldn't like it and it would really hurt, saw this one and thought for that price it's worth giving it a go. Anyway it arrived today and me being very impatient took it straight out the box whipped my trousers down and give it a go, well let me tell you I'm so impressed and couldn't believe how easy it was to use and also next to no pain, I now have lovely smooth legs and I even did my bikini line with it although that hurt slightly more, but I'm sure will be easier as I get more used to it, very very impressed

Very effective, very cheap, still painful

Pro:
It's quick, very effective, easy to use, cheap, has a long cable so you're not hanging about near a socket to use it. Has a high speed mode that is much less painful than normal.

Con:
It's still massively, agonisingly painful, but if you're thinking of buying an epilator then you probably already know that. It's very loud making a metallic screaming noise, but that's ok because your screams will drown it out while using it.

Thoughts:
If you're looking for a pain free way to be a hairless goddess...I'm sorry but this ain't it, BUT, if you can stomach the pain (i.e. you want to use any kind of epilator) you won't find a better device to pull out your hair from what feels like your nerve endings.
I'm a trans girl and use this almost every night doing small patches for however long I can stomach it. It works, it's a brilliant device, but the second I can download my brain into a perfectly hairless machine body I'll be glad to say goodbye to these horrible machines. Until then, this is your best bet!

Great Budget Epilator

I had a Philips epilator similar to this one for over 10 years, eventually it was the cable that broke. I tried a Braun epilator next, but it was much more painful and really pulled the skin leaving it very sore. This time I decided to go back to Philips, and it really is much more gentle. I’ve tried it on legs and underarms so far and both were fine. You do have to go over areas a few times to get all the hairs, but I’ve found this to be the case with all the epilators I’ve tried. For £24.99 it is definitely a bargain! Cordless and wet and dry ones are maybe more convenient, but they also don’t seem to last as long. Overall, I am very happy with the epilator and would recommend it. The one downside was that the box was not sealed and had obviously been opened previously. I thoroughly cleaned everything before use just in case, but I thought this was disappointing for a new purchase from Amazon. This is the second time I have received something with an open box? so I will be reluctant to buy electrical goods from Amazon again.

Incredibly noisy, poorly designed, a bit scary and ultimately ineffective

It looks fine until you switch it on, whereupon the noise and menacing mechanism makes you wonder whether this product was invented by an evil Victorian torturer who wanted to inflict fear upon all persons seeking to remove hair forevermore and the design still hasn't been updated, a century later.

It's also very poorly designed as it's not clear which direction you're supposed to hold & drag it in (there's no markings on the device and the general shape doesn't make it obvious either) and the illustrations in the manual don't help very much - you can work it out if you look carefully, but I'm fed up of having to check each time.

I can't believe that this is the best device to solve this problem, it's awful, and I wish I'd kept the packaging so that I could return it for a refund so instead it's languishing in the bottom of a drawer of unloved gadgets.

Please save yourself the disappointment and buy something else instead.

Wanted to show an example on the photo.
I wasn't blessed with the best of legs and am a large lady.
I really wish I had brought the years ago.
Can't ever see me going back to using a razor blade again.
Yes... it does hurt slightly as it pulls the hairs from the roots so that's to be expected.
Both legs are now nice and smooth. It's my first time using it so can't comment on the regrowth time but I would imagine it's definitely going to be far longer than wet shaving.
It's mains powered so don't have the inconvenience of recharging and losing power half way through.
I only needed to use it on the number 1 setting but it does come with a number 2 setting also.
Another big plus side for me is I can now sit in the comfort of my living room whilst watching TV and shave my legs.
Happy customer here.
Would highly recommend if you've never tried one before or want one that actually works.

Having spent a lot of money on hair removal and epilators over the last couple of decades, epilating is the only method of hair removal that gives me the instant and lasting results I want. I’m in the process of moving house and I’ve misplaced my expensive Philips cordless epilator - so I bought this as a backup. And I’m really impressed with it!
It’s extremely powerful and easy to use. It’s noisy but I think that might help distract a little from the discomfort! If anything this may be less painful than my cordless one too because it’s more powerful. The only thing it lacks is a light - I used my phone light when I did it! But it worked and honestly I might start choosing this over my expensive epilator when it does eventually resurface. It always used to run out of battery way too soon too.
Great little purchase. Only a light and it being a bit quieter would improve it .

Ok, so a few years ago I got one of those all singing all dancing epilators. It had all this magic stuff that was supposed to make it not hurt, using it was like torture, I couldn't even put it to my leg and vowed never to try an epilator again.
Four years later I decided to punish myself again and bought this. I now have hairless legs. I don't know why this one doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as the other but I would 100% recommend this one. I started on the fleshy calf area, moving slowly and before I knew it I was finished with one leg. It hurts but its not excruciating and the results are amazing. I've got thick dark hair so I never have smooth legs after shaving but this did the trick. I had some irritation but that seems normal and it settled after two days. Its simple to clean because its not got all these silly add on bits. Also, it picks up tiny hairs so you can go over it the minute you feel the hair which is great, no need to wait for it to grow in.

This is the first epilator I have purchased so I don’t have anything to compare it to. The product is easy to use and instructions are fairly straightforward. The plug is a UK 3 pin so no adaptor is required. It is not cordless. You have to go over the same area of skin a few times to ensure all hairs are removed but I believe the same thing applies to every epilator in the market. I believe it is a good product for the price. It could have been improved if there was a light on the device as I have seen others have. The product is also loud so can’t really be used discreetly.

I don’t really like epilators. They’re loud, the mechanism reminds me of a meat grinder from a horror film, and having hairs individually plucked out of my legs en masse is an experience and I can only equate to masochism.
I also hate shaving and having stubbly legs. It’s expensive and feels futile.
I prefer waxing, because it’s less painful and daunting than the epilator. It is still painful, but it is over quickly, unlike the prolonged torture of epilation.
However I’ve been waxing myself since lockdown and kept going with it to save money and time, but waxing yourself isn’t very efficient and spots get missed and there areas that were hurting my back to reach. Also epilators pick up shorter hair.

That’s why I bought this. I’m still waxing 90% of my body, but then using this in the hard to reach areas and going back over h to E waxed areas a couple of days later to get any stragglers. I’m actually surprised that epilation isn’t as awful as I remember and have been using this on my underarms instead of wax. I don’t think I’m going to start epilating my entire legs, but this is helping me get the most out of hair removal and considering the price I think this is a fantastic little tool.

A Bit Painful - But Its Worth It!

I read many reviews for this product before deciding to take the plunge. I've not got a particularly high pain threshold, so I consider myself quite brave about purchasing a device that effective rips your hair out at the root over large parts of your body.

The product is quite small, easy to hold and before you turn it on, looks quite innocuous. When turning it on, it does transform into a very angry sounding device and with it's whirling rippy implements (akin to gnashing teeth), I did have to summon up the courage to put the device on my leg.

The first patch of hairs to be ripped out did cause me to utter several expletives, but I persevered and was surprised how quickly my brain adjusted to the pain threshold. I also found that there are certain parts of your body that hurt more than others e.g. when you hit a more sensitive spot, you are more inclined to go over the area that you first thought really hurt, because in comparison it was a walk in the park.

As mentioned by another reviewer, when the ripped out hair grows back, the next time you use the device, the regrowth is removed easier and doesn't feel quite as painful. I have so far been brave enough to do my lower legs several times and the hair is taking around 2 weeks to come through. However, I was surprised how much it hurt on my upper legs and thighs. I incorrectly thought it would hurt more on areas with thinner skin, but I was wrong, so I am having to limit the ripping on the tops of my legs to small patches over several days.

I did have a few red blotches after using, but now my skin is adjusting to my new 'torture' regime, the skin is not looking so angry.

I have also purchased a Philips IPL machine, so hoping that between ripping and zapping, I will be hair free on my legs within 6 months.

It is a bit painful, you do have to go over the same area several times, but if you can tolerate the discomfort, in the long run it is better than shaving or waxing.
