Terrific idea ruined by poor QA and missing bits

These are a really great idea for any youngster who loves putting things together and working with tools, however the quality of these cars was seriously poor. I bought two of these for Xmas, this one and another with slightly more parts. With this one, the screwdriver didn't work properly out of the box, it screwed up, but didn't unscrew, it just made a clicking noise. The other one had two left parts for the main body mods, rather than one right part and one left part, and was missing one small screw entirely, so we couldn't even build that either. Really not what you want on Christmas morning.

Beyond that, there's other issues with these kits. For starters the instructions aren't clear enough about which screws go where (when you have screws of different lengths), and there are aspects of the build quality that aren't great. Most of the body goes together fine and relatively easily, but the wheels are fiddly. The screw hole is very shallow, so when you attempt to put the screw in, the screws tend to tilt and hence go in at an angle where they get jammed. You have to painstakingly get the screws flush to the holes before they would go in, which frankly was tested the patience of this 40 year old let alone a 5 year old with limited patience. Also, the drill (the one that worked) wasn't particularly great either, for the most part it didn't have the power to unscrew the screws it had screwed up. So you'd have to give them a slight turn by hand first, or manually with the screwdriver before they would start to move which again is just poor especially if you're a frustrated five year old.

The fact that both cars had problems straight out of the box is indicative of a more serious problem than just plain bad luck, and given my experiences, I'd certainly not advise buying anything from this range.

Didn’t come with a box, meant for a gift but definitely doesn’t look worth it. I ordered a similar version for my niece and came in a lovely box however this is just loose pieces. Not a great gift.
I would check when ordering

This is such a good toy. Grandson loved it. It is well designed and made. I am not easily impressed with the toys that are around at the moment but this is an absolute winner. It wasn't bought to be educational but they need to learn that some parts have to be fitted in order otherwise they will need to remove them. It makes them think ahead and plan the assembly. Having said this it is not difficult and a lot of fun for any child who likes to use an electric screwdriver.

The first thing to note is that there are many versions of this car that look the same. The first time I bought it we ended up sending it back because it just wouldn't stay together. I then bought the Think Gizmos version which we found to be spot on. The pieces connect easily, the little drill works as it should. The best thing about this version though compared to competitors is that you can actually turn the sound off without disassembling the car - anyone responsible for a child will tell you that noisey toys get a big long in the tooth fairly quickly so this was very welcome. My son is 4 and very much enjoys this, I'd say that was an ideal age.

This is a very good toy - well designed and manufactured. I prepared it for my 5 y.o. grandson and was much impressed by its sturdy construction. The batteries are included which is good AND a little screwdriver for their compartment which saved me searching through my toolbox.
I know William will love this toy, the power drill will be a big hit with him - he loves to take everything apart and now he gets to change the components of the car also.

My 5 year old grandson LOVED this car. He took about 5 minutes to get the hang of the battery operated screw driver then he was off. For the last couple of days, he has carried it around all day and it has been dismantled and put back together again many, many times. Fantastic toy.

Bought for my grandson (soon to be four). He has assembled and dismantled the car a number of times and has now discovered that it can be a saloon or race car. So far it has held his attention for periods of 1 hour..
Only had it a few days so cannot say if it will continue to hold his attention.

Not used the toy yet but disappointed to find it had no box! It came in separate plastic bags inside the Amazon cardboard box!
It was to be a gift for Christmas but how do I give it without an outer box? I will keep it as it looks ok but will give it to my grandson at the weekend when he comes. Not suitable as a gift!

My nephew played with this a lot for the first couple of days after Christmas, but then it seemed to get left, which is why I knocked off one star. It's certainly well built and is great for any child who wants to feel like a grown-up mechanic. The little screwdriver works a treat and is safe for a child to use, without it being the real thing. (Let's just say that nothing else in the house had been dismantled by New Year!) It just seemed to lose its novelty quite quickly.

Mon fils de 4 ans et ma fille de 2 ans adorent ce jouet.
Tout est bien pensé même pour des petites mains, le jouet est pratique et solide.
Tout s'emboite / se monte très facilement, tout a fait a la porté d'enfants jeunes.

Jouet idéal par ailleurs pour améliorer la motricité fine des deux mains
