I really want to like New Direction gear because it is so modern thinking. The concept of linking everything together is a carp anglers dream. But where ingenuity ends poor quality and cheap Chinese circuitry takes over.
Let me explain.
The first purchase was for a set of magnetic P8 butt rests. Excellent idea and they actually work really well. They are well made and look like they are built to last. Then unfortunately this is coupled with a plastic/rubber band which holds part of the rest to your rod. When fitted they look an eyesore and I’m not sure you would want them attached to a shrink wrap handle on an expensive rod as over time I can see them leaving a permanent mark.
The second purchase was a set of the T4 Bite Indicators. These are actually really nice and work well. My only criticism would be the connection to the hockey stick is not magnetic so you have to screw them on each time or leave them permanently attached. Secondly, you cannot purchase separate hockey sticks if you need them, say for a pod and separate stick setups.
Third purchase and by this time I was full-on ND sold was the Bivvy light, Smart Band and Anti-theft Alarm.
Bivvy light. Works as advertised but can’t quite get past it trying to be a clone of the Ridgemonkey but without the useful remote. Its build quality is nowhere near that of the RM. But having said that coupled with the smart band does function well. The single gripe is that it does not retain light setting memory so every time you turn it on the first use of the smart band reverts to the white light.
Now onto the big disappointment, the Th9 motion detector. I’ve had three attempts at getting one that actually worked. The first had no sound so sent it back, the second had sound but the volume was so low it wouldn’t scare a mouse. The third worked with better sound but was still not that good. However, I suspect if it was linked to an ND receiver you could adjust the volume at least I hope so. But as I use Delks there is no way I’m changing to the ND ones, too many bad reviews.
So you would surmise I’m no fan, but on the country, I also now have the bivvy table and power pack. Now that is a success.
In summary, the stuff is good and defiantly worth the prices however don’t be surprised if you get a duff unit and have to send it back.
One final note and aimed at ND themselves if they read these. PUT SOME INSTRUCTIONS IN WITH YOUR STUFF. The only way to figure controls out is via youtube.

Magnet so strong that your whole pod will be dragged in. Rubber fasteners don’t come off easy.

Unless I’ve misunderstood can’t see what this product is for? If it’s purely as a rod rest then the rubber fastener need to be undone before striking which is not practical.

If it’s the case that the magnet stays on your rod then when you strike the magnet is that strong the whole rod pod will lift up.

If it’s just to use overnight when you’re asleep and so the rods don’t get dragged in then again it’s more than likely the whole pod and the rest of your rods will go in too.

There’s not much surface space to the rests so will not be the best to just as rests alone without the rubber fastening.

No doubt someone will correct me on how they should be used but at this moment to me they’re pointless and expensive.

I had been looking at different types of but rests, from the standard to the locking type, but couldn’t find any that suited me.
These are perfect. I leave one 1/2 on my pod and the other on my rods, so I’m good to go shortly after getting to the bank.
The magnets are super strong but don’t interfere with a strike, which some of the locking ones do.
The are well made and look great.
The way they connect to your rods is adjustable so should fit any rod.

I am very impressed and the new direction quality is there as usual.

I’ve recently purchased pretty much everything New Direction produce.

However I’ve stopped using these after one session. The magnets are strong - very strong. If you are fishing big carp, they may be ideal for well secured bank sticks.

If your using a pod, you may well find you end up lifting the pod up. The other thing I don’t like - if you are like me and don’t put you rods back onto an alarm in exactly the same place you will end up missing the magnet. If you can get used to putting the butt of the rod on the magnet first, you should be ok.

New Direction tackle is great, but for me these are not much use.

Absolutely delighted with these holders! Fantastic quality. The magnets are just right. I always anchor my pod anyway but even if not the magnets won't lift your pod on a pick up. Once you have set the top part to your rod butt's then simple to find the perfect line up to your alarms every time. I think these are a really good invention and can't say anything negative about them. We'll done ND tackle!

Great idea but the strapping that holds the rod butt rest to the rod needs so more design. It's literally a rubber band. Also the magnet isnt that particular strong imo. I had a small carp of 6-7lb rip the rod off the rest and the reel slam into the bite alarm because the magnet wasn't particularly strong. I wasn't fishing locked up tight on the clutch either. So if your fishing close to weed or snags and have to fish tight and locked up I'd choose something else because these will definitely release the rod under a tiny bit of strain from the fish

These look gd I have try d it on my pod and found the quicker u lift the rod off it does not lift the pod as you can see mine is not tht heavy the like s of a fox or similar probley would have to secure it to the ground as it might lift it am happy these are well better than the ngt sang ones 100% as there plastic mine only lasted few trips these nd one should last for years 😜

I was unsure about these when I bought them but from the first time I used them my mind was put at ease.Best used when you can either secure your pod to the ground or on a secure bank stick setup as the magnets are very strong(i use a sod pod and with out strapping the pod down i can pick it up on the magnets)but once your strapped down the magnets put you in the exact position every time and come away on the strike easily enough.Top magnet is convex and bottom is concave and this ensures you are right everytime.Comes with the straps you see in the add but also with an O ring which is best for most modern carp rods.

Good strong magnet on them but not too strong that you struggle to lift the rod on a strike. Used them sunday just gone and they held well when a 11lb cattie took off like a rocket. Definitely be buying more if these. Well recommended to purchase them.
