Illegible instructions

There are three irritating features about this device.
1) The instructions are printed so small that they are illegible. In the end I scanned and enlarged them by a factor of 6 to read them easily. (I've attached a scan of the text with a 2p coin for scale)
2) You have to select the age range EVERY time you use it.
3) It does seem to take a while longer than other digital thermometers to get a reading

The one positive feature is that it has a flexible stem so it's more comfortable in use than the conventional rigid oral thermometer.

Manual clearly states that this beeps when switched on and when steady temperature is reached. It does not make any sound so you don't know if a good reading has been taken.
Strangely after removing and replacing the battery it beeped once when switched on, but not afterwards.
The age adjustment is a pain as it has to be set each time it is used.
Disappointing.

Some impractical features, yet good enough readings

I purchased this product as an alternative to forehead temperature measurements. From our usage so far, it seems that presents pretty correct temperature measurements and that is ultimately the most important trait.

However, there are several quite impractical features in it, that it is hard to believe Braun engineers could make something like that. Hard to believe any thoughtful engineer would approve something like that. Let me list them:
1) If you want to make a couple of successive measurements, you may not just press the measurement button and repeat the measurement, but you first have to turn the device off, then turn it on again, set the age group (out of three offered age groups) and then re-do the measurement. What a hassle!
2) There are three age groups built-in, supposedly for more accurate readings. Ok, no problem with that, initially, but it is done inconveniently. Namely, you would hope that the device will memorize your choice and have it ready next time you turn on the device and not require you to make the selection each and every time again and again before you take a measurement of the temperature.
3) The display, although it gets lit after the measurement is done, it weirdly does not have a background illumination during the process of selecting the age group of the patient?! So, imagine you come to a dark room to check the temperature of your child and before you take a measurement, you first need to select the age group...but the display is dark and you see nothing! So, you need to go out to the other room that is better lit or use a flashlight to illuminate the thermometer display in order to select the age group before the measurement.

When the above three hassles are taken into account, it is probably not worth paying a "Braun" price for this device. You can likely find equally dependable and equipped no-name one at half the cost of this one. For example, I previously bought some on eBay (of course, from China) and it show exact reading as this Braun, but I bought those for about $2 a piece.

I bought one of these and then sent it back because the beep sound indicator for "done" was absent. But the replacement was exactly the same. This flaw makes the device difficult to use and is a poor design compared with the Vicks thermometers with which I am most familiar are the most popular in the USA.

pros: it works.

cons: loud "beep" noise after the result is ready makes your sleeping baby jump - before reading you have to select the age group, the devices back light does not work in this stage and makes it difficult/impossible to see what you are doing... after the result is ready then the backlight turns on... why no light from the beginning?

Had one of these before and it lasted a couple of years before it gave up the ghost (I’m a nurse) but this one only lasted a couple of months, battery change made no difference

The first one was returned because it did not bleep to say indicate reading was ready or bleep rapidly to indicate a fever.
The replacement sometimes bleeps, but I can`t be bothered returning again. Just count to 10 before removing thermometer.

A real pain to use. In order to get temp for adult:
1. Turn on
2. Click age button 3 times
Put in orifice.
To take second reading:
1. Turn off
2. Turn on
3. Click age button 3 times
4. Return to orifice

It’s nice and comes with a cover. I juts don’t like that I can’t set the age and only when I need change it. Right now it’s asking every time the age...
It’s shows the same temperature all the time 😃
A bit disappointed, as do not know which one to trust :/

So I've updated my review, I had for almost two years now, but have noticed, although it still works, it's not reading temps right, I went to docs after my temp showed 39 (wasn't well anyway) and doc read my temp 20 mins later and it wasn't even near 39! I've given three stars as it has lasted and still works after three years
