Good for brisk walking

I walk. I don’t jog, or cycle, or swim. I also don’t need a wristband that gives me charts and statistics and a map of my route. What I wanted was something which I could clip onto my finger periodically and which would tell me whether I was walking fast enough to get up to 120bpm (I wasn’t). My husband does have a wristband so checked his heart rate against this device and it was within 2bpm. Good enough. It’s overpriced and It doesn’t always register correctly when I’m walking but I just press the button again to get it to redo the numbers. Oh and you have to cup your other hand over it to see the numbers in bright light, but that’s fine. It works well for what I wanted so I’m happy with my purchase.

Update: this worked perfectly over the summer but is struggling now it's cooler. I have to clip it on and then put my hand in my pocket to warm it up for a minute. Even then the readings can be way off until about the third attempt.

A mixed review. This works great for my husband who has man sized fingers... terrible for me because I don’t! I have very normal women sized hands and the clip isn’t stong enough to clip my fingers which means I struggle to get a reading, even off my thumb. It worked with my thumb in terms of getting a reading, but it was clearly not accurate if you compare to my data from other devices. My husband’s data came back as expected so we believe it was able to give an accurate reading.

It took a long time though. This is not a few seconds. It was about 3 mins for my husband and over 5 for me (for the dodgy reading!)

Not sure I can fully recommend this.

Having recently had the misfortune to suffer a pulmonary embolism, I've been looking for a reliable way to measure my SpO2 at home. This device appears to work, in that a number appears on the screen. The number is plausible, in that it's somewhat lower for me than it is for healthy members of my household. But there's no independent confirmation of accuracy, and the device isn't required to meet any particular standards.

A pulse oximeter used in a hospital would be required to have regular checks and calibration. A consumer device isn't. I really have no idea whether, or in what circumstances, the readings from this unit can be relied on. I've noticed, for example, that the SpO2 reading can vary by three percentage points just depending on my arm position. That's probably not a problem if your SpO2 is usually 98%; but it's potentially a big deal if it's usually about 91%, as mine is. I've also noticed that from time to time it can't even register my pulse rate -- usually when I'm exercising. This is when I'm most concerned about my oxygenation, and if it can't register my pulse, I certainly don't trust it to measure SpO2 properly.

While there are many reviews of devices like this, I've seen little attempt to measure their accuracy in a systematic way. The consumer devices use essentially the same technology as medical-grade units and, in principle, there's no reason for them to be less accurate. Moreover, In the interests of fairness I should point out that the factors that limit the accuracy of consumer devices -- positioning, temperature, nail polish, etc -- are also problematic for the hospital equivalents.

It's just unfortunate that the accuracy of the consumer devices cannot be (or, at least, have not been) independently verified.

Having said all that, I'm not giving a so-so review because of the uncertain accuracy, as this is a problem that will affect any consumer pulse oximeter. Rather, the problem is that the display is upside down. That is, if you use it on yourself, you'll be reading it upside down. Other models have a display that is more readable by the "patient".

This is the second one I've purchased, and whilst not the highest quality plastic, the device is sturdy and readings appear to be accurate. I'm surprised by more recent reviews claiming low accuracy, especially as this is one of the few Pulse Oximeters I could find with a verifiable CE NB code and Notifying Body. This is the four-digit code next to the CE mark (in this case, 0473), and means the device has been tested and certified as a medical device capable of measuring 'X'. In this case, the 'X' is pulse and Sp02. It's not self-certification.

"CE 0473" is shown in the product description and the product photos, and the manufacturer should be able to provide a copy of the certificate to show an independent, accredited certification company has certified the device.

I like this - I got it because of the pandemic, and used it a number of times when I don't feel so well. It's a bit tricky to use because it's never worked straight off and takes at least four or five times to get a reading. I think it works well eventually, but I'm still a bit disappointed. I put my finger in the right place, and the reading comes up as garbage; I take my finger out, warm it up a bit more in case that's interfering with the reading, and try again, and still garbage - it works and gives me a reasonable reading on about the fourth or fifth try.

Also - the mechanism that hold the device together at the clip-end was already broken when I unpacked it - this wasn't a major issue because it comes with a stretchy rubber holder that keeps it together and still allows use, but I would've liked a device that worked first time every time, and didn't fall apart.

I think the eventual readings are accurate, though, so as long as you don't mind fiddling with it a little, it's an OK device.

had this since april 2016 and only used it occasionaly but tonight it gave one reading wich took a long time to register and there after it stopped. I checked the batteries and they were still ok so assume some compnet like the laser light has failed. While it worked the readings were fine and had been checked against a hopital equivalent - pitty its not more robust.

The Oximeter seems to be working satisfactorily, but there may be a problem if you have a pet. The device must be emitting a signal at a frequency inaudible to humans but not dogs even though the unit was switched off. Our dog was extremely distressed, and only settled once the batteries were removed from the unit.
Please be aware of this if you are considering buying one.

Yes it cheaply made, but testing against my current one it had 100% accuracy .
The problem with these devices is that they are used by those without a medical background, and their ability to read depends upon a number of factors
There is a goid reason that in acute areas ear sats probes have to be used, so NO this will not work on everyone, if there are underlying conditions.

The price of these has rocketed and the £29 one I bought some time ago is now listed at £80+ !

Sp it is a cheaper alternative, but don't expect it to give arterial gas readings!

'Don't look at the reading , look at the patient ' has always held true.

Purchased this on the day myself and my husband tested positive for covid as thought it was handy to have. We used it immediately, day 2 of covid and my reading was 97 and rather alarmingly my husbands was 92. We spoke to 111 and although they agreed it was low, they weren’t overly concerned and advised to Continue to monitor. As the illness developed and my husbands cough and shortness of breath got worse, his readings were coming out at 88-90. Day 8 the paramedics came to check him and when he was hooked up to their reader, it showed 95. We done a reading on ours whist they were there and it was 90. We’ve come to the conclusion that maybe my husbands fingers were too big to get an accurate reading. He’s is 6ft4 and quite broad!

Flimsy & instructions manual faint grey lettering in tiny font

This is very flimsy. When we went to close it after inserting the batteries it would not close properly. There was a tiny plastic piece that needed to slot in but it was bent when it should be straight and looked as if it would break if we straightened it. So had to leave it not quite secured but with the plastic case on it worked ok. The enclosed leaflet refers to an instruction manual but the manual is actually a folded A4 sheet printed in a faint grey font & only readable with a very strong magnifying glass.
