It lights - but it's such a basic design that this is hardly surprising.
Someone is pulling a fast one here though. It was visibly scratched on one side. If I were a collector, it would go straight back. There was no red "seal" sticker over it and the insert is a very loose fit. It even has enough play in it - about 1mm - for the insert to tip over to one side when lighting it with an audible "click" as the side of the insert hits the inside wall as pressure is applied to the wheel. The lid also doesn't sit flush when it's closed. In short, this is IMHO either "B" stock or possibly even a fake. It was a "sold by Amazon" item so quite disappointing to have paid 3x more than a regular Zippo for an Armour one and then receive a piece of... like this. It's a gift for someone and no time to return it now. I feel a bit bad passing on a lemon to a friend - but he's no Zippo expert so I'm sure he'll be happy enough with it. Pretty much anything that can go wrong with such a simple lighter IS WRONG! I planned to buy another for myself but that's not gonna happen now.

I wanted a wind-proof lighter so I got the Armor in High Polish Chrome. This is my first Zippo in many years and the first 'Armor', so yes, I find it a bit more heavy and substantial than I remember, which I like. The colour is not so 'light' as in the pictures, it looks slightly darker. The chromed surface is extremely prone to smearing & fingerprints so it's never mirror-like, as in the photos. The gap at the lid is more pronounced compared to the hairline gap in the pictures (even without the inner part). The hinge has quite some play. There was no red label on the lighter, but I trust it's genuine. The lighter comes with a flint but of course no fluid. I decided to fill it up but I couldn't pull the inner out because it was firmly stuck inside. I managed with some WD40 (some black-ish stuff also came out), and now I have smeared a bit of Vaseline all around so it's a bit easier (but still hard) to open and refill. Overall (except for the wobbly hinge) I am happy with my new lighter.

Developed a lovely surface after minimal use with small scratches adding to the beautiful natural grain of the brass (which crime versions lack) Highly impressed as it looked good brand new and will continue to age and wear beautifully through the years. Works great and you should too it up every time before going out. Not as affective as a butane torch lighter in terms of working in wind but still works great and infinitely more stylish.

Having bought the brass armor zippo which I love, I'm really disappointed with this high polish chrome armor one. I returned the first 2 that I ordered because of a loose hinge. The hinge on this 3rd one isn't as good as my brass one either.

The only reason I didn't return it is because of having to return so many items to Amazon lately (returned my first brass one also).

It just doesn't have that great zippo click when you close the lid. It sounds hollow and worse than a regular zippo. Where the armor ones are supposed to be much better. I made the mistake of filling it up and using it, so now I'm stuck with a £20 lighter I'm not going to use.

Poor quality control from zippo is the likely reason for this.

Great lighter and worth getting the armoured version

I had to buy a Zippo lighter (or 3) when I bought a Zippo hand warmer. I'd already bought a matt black one and decided that I wanted an armoured one too. The difference is that the metal on the armoured version is thicker which makes it a bit more resilient to knocks and bumps. It's quite easy to see the difference when you hold the two up next to each other and this has become my preferred lighter for every day use.

I also love the fact that every Zippo lighter has a lifetime guarantee so if anything goes wrong with it - send it back to the factory and they'll fix it free of charge - it has to be a quality product for the company to be that confident and they certainly feel great quality.

Get the genuine Zippo lighter fuel too as it smells a lot less than some of the other brands.
