Smallrig kit is good. This is very small and light and whilst nicely engineered, it has inherent weakness from being so light when used with heavy cameras. I am using it only for travelling-light shooting, or for packing in aircraft hold, on a very lightweight photo tripod - but with a heavier than usual camera - a SonyFS5 is large and looks silly ontop of this Smallrig head - but it works, and you can get smooth pan and tilts as long as you have good technique and have pre-flexed the fluid head so you don't have a jerk inertia.

All in all- a good piece of kit.

Really strange, pan and tilt smooth but it would not support the camera without drooping unless the lock knob was virtually fully on the camera was well within the weight range of the head spec, I was disappointed as it was the right size for my needs and I was hoping to keep to arca Swiss qr plates. Might be ok for a lighter camera or smart phone.

Excellente tête fluide pratique et légère

Habitué aux têtes fluides d'une autre marque très connue mais beaucoup plus onéreuse, j'ai voulu tester celle-ci pour gagner du poids sur un trépied pour mes vidéos de mariage.

Quelle bonne surprise! Cette tête fluide est un super investissement pour qui voudrait une rotule pas cher, hyper légère, très peu encombrante, facile d'utilisation, avec une capacité d'emport correcte et surtout fluide!

En effet détrompez vous, malgré sa petite taille elle a tout d'une grande!
Comme vous pouvez le voir sur mes photos, elle peut supporter un sacré poids (gh5 avec 18-35mm).

Plaque de dégagement rapide et compatible au standard arca swiss au top.
Mouvement parfaitement fluide sans saccades (et croyez moi je suis exigeant sur la fluidité car je suis vidéaste de mariage).
Je n'avais même pas fait attention qu'il y avait une clé allen intégrée pour les petites visses de la manivelle.

Elle peut également être montée sur un accessoire comme un rail de traveling comme vous pouvez le voir sur une de mes photos.

Le seul point négatif pour moi est la manivelle dont on ne peut pas régler l'orientation, ce qui peut être pratique parfois, ne serait-ce que pour le rangement dans un sac, il faudra donc la dévisser et la revisser.

Buona testa fluida

Ho usato questa testa per delle riprese video usando una ML canon ed attrezzatura Canon RF. La testa sicuramente è la più piccola e leggera testa video sul mercato, quindi per i viaggi è veramente interessante avere un prodotto del genere. Con i pesi da me caricati la testa si comporta ragionevolmente bene in tilt, mentre il pan è sicuramente più difficoltoso in quanto il movimento non è controllato come il tilt, ma lasciato alla sensibilità dell'operatore. Dopo qualche giorno d'uso ho capito che quando si tenta un moviemento di pan per essere fluidi serve tenere il treppiede appena sottola testa, allora si riesce ad avere un controllo ed una sensibilità maggiore sul movimento. Inizialmente per questa cosa pensavo di restituirla poi in effetti dovendo fare dei movimenti pan non troppo prolungati penso che la terrò. Non esiste nulla di così portabile. E' veramente molto piccola, quasi sorprende.

Für den Preis eigentlich sehr brauchbar. Ist kein highend Video Mega, in der horizontalen die Schwenks laufen eher zäh, Vertikal ist in Ordnung. Der Griff ist kompakt und griffig, Die beiden Fixier-Hebel - Schrauben lassen sich ausziehen mit Federspannung und fixieren . Material ist Kunststoff, das ist aber okay wenn man damit nicht Gefahr läuft, die Kamera zu verkratzen.

auf einem kompakten oder Mini Stativ eine gute Lösung für Kameras wie die Panasonic G 110 oder auch andere Vlogging Kameras

Una testa video piccola, leggera, economica, solida, tutta in metallo, quasi perfetta per attrezzature leggere che non richiedano una vera testa fluida. La stella in meno deriva da un difetto grave tra l’altro facilmente correggibile con una spero futura versione: l’attacco non è arca swiss compatibile avendo un profilo troppo basso è un angolo errato! Funziona solo con la piastra in dotazione, peraltro anche molto bene. Con piastre arca swiss di terze parti l’attacco sarebbe precario e fortemente insicuro, tanto da sconsigliarne l’uso. Si rimedia usando una clamp di terze parti, io ho optato per l’eccellente Sirui MP-20 con safety pin retrattile che però da sola costa quasi quanto l’intera testa anche se l’accoppiata risulta ottima e ancora poco cara. Volendo si può optare per plate di più basso costo.

Si buscas un cabezal de vídeo pequeño que puedas llevar a cualquier parte, es ideal. No pesa mucho y por el precio es difícil encontrar algo mejor. Ahora bien, eso de "fluído" es bastante relativo, ya que no puedes mover el cabezal con una mano como con otros modelos (más caros, eso sí).

I found this to be the perfect solution. But not for what you think!

Before I get on to how I have found a perfect solution to my particular needs I will appraise the SmallRig Selection Fluid Tripod Ball Head. Firstly I was impressed with the quality 'feel' of the SmallRig. All the machined parts were well made and for a small form factor the head had a very good 'fluid' action and it reminded me of my old Manfrotto. There's a spirit level at the top, although it's beneath the quick release plate so invisible the moment you put a camera atop... but to be honest I can never remember having a requirement for a spirit level on a tripod as my eye is fine for me when I peruse the camera view.
Overall I liked the SmallRig a lot. I do think that the quick release plate is not the quickest though, as you still have to unscrew the side-knob to release the plate. All my other quick release plates have a sprung lever or similar that is what I would call "quick release". Still on the quick release plate; whereas I feel it's fine for my small Sony camera, I wasn't convinced that the screw-in plate side-fixing was very reassuring as it has such a small 'lip/ledge/ridge' that basically holds the plate on to secure it. I would feel less confident fixing a large DSLR and relying on the small ridge of quick release plate to secure the camera?

Okay. So here's why I am so pleased with the SmallRig. My days of struggling carrying around large SLR/DSLR cameras and associated accessories (lenses, tripods etc) are well and truly over. I still like taking photos but the willingness to have a rucksack full of heavy kit strapped to my tired old back is just too much. However, I do still like to have a capable camera with me most times when I am out for a walk etc. My choice nowadays is a very compact Sony RX100 VII. It's more than able to take high quality images & video and it's light and small enough that I will take it with me, whereas with my old DSLRs they were starting to stay at home more often than not.

My primary interest is now video I guess and the Sony can shoot really good footage in 4K, it has decent stabilisation built in too. There are times though when I'd like to have the camera mounted for a steadier smooth shot. My long time favourite tripod is my trusty old Manfrotto... but it's huge, and heavy (see pics) so that's staying at home with the DSLRs (it hasn't been out of the house for about 15 years now)! I have a fantastic Sony accessory that's a small fold-out tripod, hand grip and camera controller all in one. That's generally all I will take with the RX100. However, sometimes you want a smooooooth video pan shot, or a smooooooth vertical rising video. That's not really achievable on the Sony tripod... but, add a neat and small fluid-headed gizmo and, well, the possibilities open up.

I saw the SmallRig and when I checked its dimensions, weight and fixing requirements I had a bit of a "Eureka Moment". I decided it was worth trying the SmallRig and potentially using it in a rather original way. I think that the photos I have posted tell my story visually, but basically the SmallRig is 'SmallEnough' to screw onto my tiny Sony Grip/tripod and suddenly I have that wonderful fluid movement available to me. I am amazed how well it has worked for me. I can even use the setup two-handed by using my left hand to hold the Sony grip handle and my right hand on the SmallRig 'joystick' and still get remarkably steady pan-movements when not even leaning against something. I have been impressed with the improvement offered.

Not only does the SmallRig fit on my Sony Grip/tripod but also I have extremely lightweight and compact foldable 'tripods' (they are technically light stands) and the SmallRig works a treat on them too, and obviously I get a lot more height for the camera. They are not much heavier than the Sony Grip/tripod and so can also be stuffed in a bag if I think I may need a taller support. To be honest though, there's usually something I can rest against with the small Sony Grip/tripod - and that suffices for a typical day's outing.

So, it may not be what SmallRig intended for their fluid head but, crikey, it's a little wondrous thingy when introduced into my Sony camera setup. It's small and light enough not to impact too much on my desire to 'travel light' (I would prefer it if they could make the SmallRig a bit lighter-weight though).

For around £50 the SmallRig has great fluid/dampening qualities. I do have reservations about the quick release plate but that actually isn't an issue for the way I utilise it. Really am uite chuffed and hopefully my little 'story of discovery' might give others ideas to try. Because of the not-so-quick-release-plate, and the slightly fiddly and tiny-ridged plate securing method I am taking the Star Rating down to 4 Stars, because I feel others may have concerns in that area.

SMALLRIG: Fluid Tripod Head

▬ Pros ▬▬▬

✔ Size: If you're looking for a fluid head that has some portability to it then this will certainly tick that box. The head itself is very compact and as a whole, shouldn't be hard to slot in a bag despite the protruding handle, though with that said, the handle can be removed (hex key included).

✔ Weight: With it being compact, it's also very lightweight! Great for adding to your gear bag without adding too much weight.

✔ Ease-of-Use: The head is very easy to use from mounting a camera to the Arca Swiss plate, to adjusting the knobs to adjust the friction/resistance for the panning & tilting motion. It can be attached to a tripod which has either the 1.4" or 3/8"-inch thread.

▬ Cons ▬▬▬

✖ Construction: The main body is well constructed; however, the adjustment knobs feel of cheap plastic which is a bit of a let down. I haven't been able as of yet to tighten the knob to a point which completely locks the movement as I've managed to still tilt the head, despite me tightening it.

▬ Final Thoughts ▬▬▬

This is a decent fluid head; however, I would be reluctant using it with my full frame camera and telephoto lens, though for smaller camera systems, this is perfect.
