All-metal pan and tilt head with useful handle

An all metal construction gives this tripod head a positive feel and ensures it is tight and free of slackness which is often found on plastic heads.

There are two movements, pan and tilt, and both are locked off by two small levers. The handle is used for the pan/tilt movements but doesn’t incorporate a twist lock mechanism like some tripod heads - it needs to have the lever on the opposite side to be turned to lock it into position. The handle is also a good length at 20cm, enough for accurate control without getting in the way when in use.

It’s well damped, in both movements, and allows smooth pan/tilt motions which is particularly useful for video shooting. By slightly tightening both levers, just enough to allow movement, the handle can effectively be used to make pan/tilt movements all with one hand, then locking off the levers when in the desired position.

The top plate is fitted with a good thin layer of non-slip rubber to grip the camera base plate positively without risk of moving when in use.

It’s not the lowest cost tripod head but is very well engineered and should give years of regular usage.

Value for money video head

Whereas it would conceivably make it more expensive, I think the one design change, its not a flaw exactly, is that locking the head can't be done off the handle, rather has to be done via a screw head. Small thing really as it does what it needs in a compact and fluid pan-and-tilt way. Liked the Allen key held on by a magnet tucked away but easily accessible and to be used for removing the handle. Could be used, with an arca-swiss L bracket to turn a stills camera portrait is multiple use is one of your criteria. Compact overall it does the job though I would have preferred just the slightest less friction when panning to make things reliably smooth but that can be as much an issue with not using a substantial enough tripod for video out of necessity and it really is a very small thing.

Certainly worth considering.

Nice workmanship, light but with some design flaws.

A great, lightweight, tripod head, with Arca-Swiss style mount, and removable arm.

It feels well machined and has lovely damping on the tilt and pan side of things, there’s a small Allen key, tucked discretely under the clamp which allows you to remove the arm if you wish.

If you are not a fan of Arca-Swiss quick release, you’re not going to like this head, firstly the clamp on one side has a very minimal sized hold tooth, if that’s the right word, its so small I’m a little frightened when taking of the camera or lens, or putting them on, and the, small, bubble level is hidden under the baseplate and therefore the camera or lens. And it’s not a ball head per se, it’s a barrel design that allows vertical up down tilting and a pan base that allows horizontal… panning.

Don’t allow this to put you off the workmanship however, I can live without yet another ball head so long as this does the job, which it does admirably, especially great for cinematography when shooting a long pan shots and equally as good for landscape photographers I imagine.

Overall, you won’t be disappointed in the craftmanship but beware this is not a ball head and watch that clamp.

Lightweight, and small

Okay, this is a small, fluid head, pan and tilt tripod head - its not suitable for a large camera, for the most part, but eminently suitable for small, mirror-less vlogging cameras or, as I use it, for a camera slide, shooting b-roll using a small second unit camera. It is well made and durable, so worth considering if you are using a smaller camera and I have got good, steady shot results from it.

Kann man nicht meckern

Qualitativ für diese Preisklasse hochwertige Ausführung mit Arca Swiss kompatibler Platte. Lediglich bei Betätigung der vertikalen Klemme sind dann und wann leise Geräusche „Knarzen“ vernehmbar; funktionell jedoch ist dies jedoch ohne Auswirkung.

Der Stativkopf ist um +90°/-55° neigbar und um 360° Schwenkbar.

Die Verarbeitung würde ich als recht ordentlich bezeichnen, was insbesondere auch für die Schnellwechselplatte gilt. Belastbar ist er bis maximal 3 kg, was für meine Nikon DSLR problemlos ausreicht.

Die Gewinde sind sauber gefräst und sogar ein wenig geölt, was will man mehr??

Ich bin zufrieden und denke Sie werden es im Hinblick auf Preis- und Leistung auch sein.

Non conoscevo questa testa di Smallrig ma ho subito voluto provarla. È interessante perché unisce caratteristiche da top di gamma, come la costruzione in metallo ottimamente rifinita, in dimensioni minime che non ti aspetti. Ovviamente non ha frizione ma il movimento è abbastanza fluido. Devo dire che mi ha colpito
