When I got this case it was genuinely so hard to fit that I ended up looking up guides on how to fit the case.

The otterbox official youtube channel has a guide, the comments are full of people complaining about how hard it to so install and saying thinks like how it felt like they were going to damage their phone(I agree)

I just don't understand why Otterbox have easy fitting as one of the features of this case because it's basically a lie. If a case was hard to fit but protected your phone then I would understand something like this, but otterbox have actively gone out of their way to mislead people.

This case is so hard to fit if you don't have decent finger/grip strength you probably won't be able to install it. It's so bad it feels like you have got the wrong size case, but no that's by design.

Aside from that though it's a nicely made case that is very tough and has a nice rubber trim on the edge that touches the screen. Otterbox seriously need to consider being more honest, but I don't think it would be fair to give them a 1 star review for that alone.

Used this same model on my iPhone X for 3 years and loved it. However the newer models for iPhone 12 are substandard. They are basically a hard plastic shell and they’ve removed the rubber coating inside which can case the rear glass to scratch if debris gets stuck between the case and the glass on the rear.

Well Made - Poor Design

The case feels like it’s good quality, but after a couple of days of using it, I really got annoyed by it. Here’s a few of my issues:

It’s very slippy. For a protective case, I would’ve hoped it wouldn’t have tried to slide off every surface I put it on to. I’m lazy, I often drop it on to the counter, but it would slide very easily.

It’s very thick. Yes it’s a protective case, but man it adds a lot of bulk. The thickness of the case makes flicking the mute button almost impossible. If you have chunky fingers, you’ll need something to poke through! The other buttons don’t click very satisfyingly either.

It’s very hard to remove - The case is very rigid, so you practically have to break the phone out. For cleaning regularly, this is annoying.

Oh god the grooves - Why so many grooves?! Every edge has a deep channel running around it. Given I’m sanitising my phone every day when I get back from work, this is so frustrating. The inside is full of grooves, and the plastic material seems to show every greasy fingerprint you leave.

Why are the logos so big?! - Big on the back and down the side. Does anybody really need to have Otterbox written on the case so it’s visible from any angle? Nope.

Returned and swapped for a case half the price and I’m happy again.

Great case with two drawbacks

This is a really great case. I’m always dropping my phone on the ground and it never gets any damage, which is the goal!
You can see on the inside corners where it has cracked from some of those hard falls, but that shows how well it protected my phone. I’ve had this case on this phone for a year now and it’s never failed me!
The two drawbacks are: now that I’ve had it a year, it has turned dark brown. It probably happened sooner and I just didn’t notice, but it’s a bit gross to look at. This happens with ALL clear cases containing that clear material that’s a bit like rubber and is from UV, not dirt. You can see from my pictures that the back and bottom parts of the case are unaffected but the top layer is really brown.
The second drawback is that over time the back becomes really visibly scratched. This is to be expected given its purpose but I do wish it was a bit more scratch resistant.

Anyway, I’m really happy with the case, and bought a new one after a year as the colour was bothering me. I think a year isn’t bad for a case anyway!

Update: it’s now two months after posting this review, and the case is pretty yellow already so for anyone considering a clear case, remember it won’t stay that way for long.

Symmetry vs Commuter (iPhone 12 Pro Max) Case

I purchased both the Symmetry as well as the Commuter case in order to compare the two head-on. In the end, I sent the Commuter back. The Symmetry is just that much sleeker, and comparatively offers the exact same level of drop protection. The Symmetry won because:
1. its and all in one unit
2. the unit appears more seamless
3. the Commuter is actually two separable pieces that combine to make the one sturdy case. A rubber inner and a hard outer shell. And while the Commuter offers more protection (has a flip-down/up piece that fully protects the lightening charging port - speakers are still exposed), it didn't feel as comfortable as the Symmetry. And as for that rubber inner, well, I could tell that over time, with taking the case off and on, it would become more and more flimsy, same with the charging port cover.
4. the back of the Commuter has a hard suggestive military look to its design, and too many indentations, whereby the Symmetry was just flat and smooth from top to bottom.

NB: I'm a tall man with big hands
