A boot-proof phone case - must have for clumsy people

This case is outstanding. In two weeks I have managed to drop the phone multiple times from varying heights with no negative impact, and I also managed to shut the boot of my car ON the phone - the only noticeable effect was that the plastic casing part has a slight dent. I am very impressed with the durability of this case - it really is shock-proof! I did combine this with a tempered glass screen however, so I don't know wether the case would perform so well without a secondary screen protector in place. The only downsides are that the inner case can be quite hard to open (but once you get the knack and it eases up it's not too bad), and the screen protector diminishes touch sensitivity - which may have something to do with my additional layer of protection, although it does still seem to be an issue for the thumbprint sensor.
With these downsides in view however, it is still an impressive case and a great purchase for anyone as clumsy as myself!

Really Bad for front protection

I was so excited to get this Otterbox case as I had heard great reviews about their cases. So I decided to get one as I wanted a case that gave me more protection than the case I had at the time. I got the case put it on and was happy with it then after a few hours of using the case the screen protector started lifting in the bottom right hand corner of the phone. Now bear in mind this is the screen protector that Samsung has on the Note 20 Ultra from factory. I've had the phone for over 2 years and never had an issue with the protector until I put this case on. So it looks as thought the case does not fit the phone snug as when the front section of the case is put on it looks OK to start off with until ypu start using the phone and clipping it in and out of the belt clip this was when I noticed the screen protector starting to lift. Now I have paid that money for a case that I have now had to take of and on top of that the original Samsung screen protector will not completely sit in the bottom corner correctly as it was lifted a grain of dust or something has got underneath it and now no matter how hard I try to get the little bubble out it will not go. This really annoys me as I am very careful with my phones. And this has really upset me as I will now have to get a replacement screen protector for my phone. Not impressed.

I was a little sceptical having switched away from the Otterbox brand over the last few phones, to Spigen but after careful review decided to try these again and so far, have not been disappointed with this decision. Yes, of course it does make the phone quite a lot more bulky but feels like it's about the best protection you could hope for and has a nice build quality. It's only been a week so far but it feels like it will last and grips well in the hand. Hope this helps someone with a Note 10 Plus take the jump...Now will sell my Samsung rugged case which was nice but too thin and flimsy for my liking - P.S. The belt clip and holder is a nice touch and will no doubt get occasional use.

I never bother with reviews but felt compelled to leave one. I have had Otterbox Defender cases for many years on a Galaxy S3, LG G3 and most recently a Samsung S7 Edge. For me, I found the case offered the best protection and the built in screen protector was a brilliant feature. I have noticed though that over time, there has been a decline in the quality in the cases. I bought a Otterbox Defender for my S9+ and was surprised to see just how far the quality of this product had fallen. It definitely feels inferior to the S7 Edge case, so much so a clip broke in seconds. Very disappointing seeing as how good the Defender series cases once were. I may have been unlucky and had a faulty one but I wouldn't bother buying this product.

This Otterbox for my S20 Ultra is just as good as the one I had on my S9 plus and my iPhone 6s. They have been consistently good. When I had my iPhone 6S all those years ago is when I began to stop paying insurance and take the risk with rugged cases. I tired various cases opting for a Griffin Survivor for a period. But I found it made the phone too bulky, the rubber too grippy and the USB port flaps came off. Eventually I got an Otterbox Defender for it and have not looked back since. I even got my wife using them, although she uses the Commuter series for her phone (and previous).
My Defender for the S9 plus lasted from May 2018 and is still going strong in September 2020, with only a slight bit of gape around the circumference where it has been removed a few times.
But now I am on my S20 Ultra. This Defender case from Otterbox arrived in the usual packaging.
It is much the same design as I am used to. Perfect combination of grip and sleekness. Grippy enough in my sweaty palm, but still sleek enough to slide into my jeans pocket.
It is clearly a high standard of protection and looking at the case I have no reason to doubt any of the claims made by Otterbox in regard to its levels of protection.
5G works with it. I tried it in Plymouth city centre and the case seems to cause it no issues.
The buttons and flaps work perfectly well.
The edge is flawless at the moment.
A five star product.

Agree with first review.
Not a complaint as the level of protection is amazing.
However yes the top layer does ruin the pre-installed screen protector and this should be addressed before getting to the user.

Otherwise best case there is. Had already purchased the Spigen Tough Armour case. Unfortunately that case been redesigned for this phone and there is little side screen protection.

This otterbox defender is amazing for that and if you put the holster in front you have 360 degree protection. The rear cut-out is also raised several mm not just one or two so superior protection for the hefty camera block on the back.

Really well made and I'm sure it will survive serious abuse and drops given the 3 part construction of the case which all locks very securely in place - HOWEVER the top sides of the case do not rise above the level of the glass of your mobile screen leaving it very exposed. Yes the top and bottom ends of the case do rise well above your screen but if it fell onto the top side of the phone there is no protection for the screen. When you buy bulky mobile protection like this you don't want to run the risk of it dropping face down onto an uneven surface when the raised ends would not save your screen from smashing.

They used to be good quality, all used to be made in the US, they made a big thing about all their kit being made in the US. They actively pointed out the difference in quality to the knock offs that came from China. Then what happened? They made it impossible to work out what was legit and what was not, all because they now also manufacture in China. I note on the report a fake on their website it no longer states look for the made in the USA mark anymore.

So final thoughts. These are now overpriced. They are no longer made in the US and they are just as poor quality as the knock offs I find. That's not a scientific result, that's just from using a knock off for a few years (which I didn't know at the time) to using a genuine one from Otterbox themselves. Both lasted the same amount of time. Both broke in the same spots.

The only useful part of this is the rubber case keeping the glass away from the surface it sits on. That protects it in a fall. But the plastic surround that goes on first the clips ALWAYS snap, always. Eventually the surround itself snaps in several places and falls apart (normally after a year or two). A few of the rubber covers eventually snap off, again after about a year or two. At this point you can either get a replacement or find something else.

They claim they are looking at sustainability, but I don't know how when these cases are all plastic and don't last very long.

If they were cheaper then fine, but at this price they are no longer worth it.

"Premium phone case" yeah OK

I can't upload the photos right now but I have had the case on since day one of my s20 ultra and today I took the case off to clean it and found that the corners and sides of the aluminium housing are all scratched from dirt getting through the case and rubbing. This is not good enough for a premium £40 phone case as this has now damaged the possible resale price of my device. Have always had cheap cases however thought I'd take better care of this device since breaking my last.
The fitment is great, at first. Now everyday I find myself having to clip the rubber outer layer back in place as this is a stretch fit that doesn't tighten back up. Heard great things about this brand but I simply can't recommend based on my own experiences, should've gone with the mous case instead.

I recommend this to everyone! Very good protection for my s21 ultra! Can be a little bulky but the s21 ultra is a big phone anyway but this doesn't bother me as its provides the best protection! I even shut my phone in the car door once not realising it had slipped out my pocket as I was shutting the door and my phone was undamaged and the case was barely damaged, was a slight dent left in the edge of the case, but if it wasn't for the case my phone would have been soo damaged! Very thankful for this case design! I love how it protects the charger hole so nothing can get into it!
Only issue I had was finding a screen protector that fitted my s21 ultra with this case on and because of the curved edge, I found the flexible plastic ones fitted best, as the glass ones wouldn't fit flush on the screen as the case was pushing it up!
