Even though I love Tracey Alcarez’s Due North and South books, it was nice to meet some new characters and join them on their journey struggling after an earthquake and getting back to their family. I whizzed through the story and enjoyed it.

Set in New Zealand's capital city of Wellington just after a large magnitude earthquake, this story of trust and love is a winner.
Lawyer, Ana and ex-military-now-farmer, Daniel, happen to be together in Ana's workplace when the big one hits the city.
With danger and devastation all around them, Ana's first thoughts are for her children and whether they are safe.
But the long trek back home takes days as they trudge through broken streets.
Despite the devastation, Ana and Daniel have, through necessity, become close. The attraction is undeniable, and yet, both parties are wary from bad relationships and disappointments.
And lurking in a suburb not far away, is a man plotting some death and destruction of his own.
Ana may need to find that trust if she is survive the battles to come.

Props to an unusual plot : a lawyer, single mum, first ds herself trapped on the third floor of her office building together with 2 colleagues, a casualty and the brother of her children's nanny.
what follows is an unusual road movie taking you on a laborious treck from downtown Wellington to the suburbs where her children are waiting... On the journey she has to face her own demons and encounters some very real demons, too. There's some steamy action going on, too, so keep well out of children's reach.... Two strong characters, the congenial description of a city afternoon earthquake, an action filled showdown at the end. The only thing I missed so far was the the close knit community like in her Stewart Island and Bounty Bay series. But I gather this is book one of a new series, so wait for the next one to become addicted.

This book had great action almost like I was there. The friction/ attraction/ love between Daniel and Ana was very much a love hate love relationship from the start, more about her denial than his. The setting during an earthquake and tsunami reissued actual issues survivors went through to get home to loved ones, and what they had to survive through to get there. I found the story interesting looking at it from that perspective. The author did a great job keeping the readers interest throughout. Highly recommended book!!
