Over de auteur

John Lloyd has a broadcasting background. As a radio producer he devised The News Quiz and To the Manor Born before moving to television to start Not the Nine O'Clock News, Spitting Image, and Blackadder. John Mitchinson is from the world of books. The original Marketing Director of Waterstone's, he became Managing Director of Cassell, and now runs Unbound.

John Lloyd CBE devised The News Quiz and To the Manor Born for radio and Not The Nine O'Clock News, Spitting Image and Blackadder for television. John Mitchinson has been both bookseller and publisher and looked after authors as diverse as Haruki Murakami, The Beatles and a woman who knitted with dog hair. Together they are in charge of research for the hit BBC show QI, and have written many bestselling books, including such titles as The Book of General Ignorance, 1,227 QI Facts To Blow Your Socks Off and most recently, 1,411 QI Facts To Knock You sideways. --Deze tekst verwijst naar de paperback editie.

Like all the QI books this is very entertaining. I also feel that it is more authoritative and is more nearly correct. I do not think that I have found any errors in this book.

I bought this for my husband years ago, but it still comes off the book shelf at regular intervals. It still makes him laugh and I have now bought him all the other QI books which he gets equal joy from.

I have now bought three copies of this book; all as presents for other people. The second two were bought largely because the first one was such a hit with my girlfriend while she was attempting to wrap it for presentation as a gift - it took her most of the evening to wrap... Likewise I chuckled my way through wrapping the others on subsequent long and late evenings. I really should buy a copy for myself I suppose! It's a great "dip in for a while" type of book, full of amusing, and yes, "quite interesting" quotes. Very good.

A very, Quite Interesting book. I really like the sub headings/catagories that the book is divided into. You bounce from one set of quotes to a completely different set, as widely opposed as can be. From Greek philosophers to Hollywood starlets, from literary powerhouses to scientific geniuses the quotes come thick and fast - but it's the occasional, contemporary, popular, figure that's thrown into the mix that raises the biggest smile. These curveballs are the gems that make you laugh out loud, just when you were nodding knowingly to another Socratic pearl of wisdom. So to sum up - I enjoyed it ! Buy it.
