Beware a software fault Philips are slow to fix

Got this yesterday. Set up easy. Beautiful TV to look at , Amblight is great etc

The reason I would recommend Amazon Customers NOT to buy this model is because Philips do not appear to have yet rolled out a firmware fix to a really annoying software problem, where a few of the most popular on demand apps (Iplayer, ITV Hub etc) do not load via FreeView Play, and you get a repeated error message FVP-300. When I googled this error code, I found that i) this fault is non uncommon ii) Philips have been aware of it for over 18 months, their UK twitter technical support @PhilipsCare_UK in response to a customer complaining sent a tweet on May 27th 2020 acknowledging this issue - ""Hi! Currently this is a known issue. Our technical department is working on a new firmware update to solve this problem. Unfortunately, there is no timetable for this firmware update yet. I'm sorry! ^Mark, Philips TV"

So here we are 14 months after that tweet, and I have the same issue, and despite being linked to Philips Support via Amazon, there is no fix available, effectively rendering the apps in question unuseable which is a disaster for a SMART TV

reading between the lines, Amazon I suspect is selling off some early 2020 models where this fault occurs.

So, while Ambilight is fantastic, I would advise Amazon customers not to buy this make and model, until it is absolutely clear that Philips have done what they should have done more than a year ago, which is fixed this and rolled out an update

Laggy if gaming

Bought this for my sons Xbox series x for the 4K quality but it is laggy - a split second behind the controller movements . Have swapped my Sony over for his x box and this works fine - I have tried to find out why this happened and have read it is something to do with slightly older technology on the hdmi plug sockets - I didn’t even know that was a thing ! I don’t game - the telly works great as a spare in my bedroom - I love the fact you can turn the lights on without the telly - ambilight . Also as a comparison you can add more apps to this but the Sony only has the built in apps from Sony . So a bit of a mixed review but I would buy again - but it’s not a good tv for gaming

TV looks sleek and stylish and is packed with all the smart apps you could possibly require.

Picture is clean on sports channels and movies, sound is strong enough not to warrant a sound bar and the hue backlight looks really cool.

Running Android Operating system means you can practically download any app you could think of, the built in immersive hue system works wonders with my existing hue bridge and bulbs, the effect is superb and really draws attention.

Very happy with the TV, blacks are deep, sound is great, picture is crisp and packed full of all the apps you could possibly require.

I am blown away by this tv. I am fussy about my tv’s, wanted to replace a bedroom tv with something simply better ( as I spend a lot of time watching tv in bed! ) This is perfect!! I usually buy Samsung, but opted for this as couldn’t find the right Samsung, so glad I did. It’s beautiful to look at, and has a stunning picture and sound quality. Don’t get me started on the ambient light surround! I had one of the first ones made many years ago!! Wow!! The tech has come on leaps and bounds. Very happy with my purchase. 😊

Great TV and the ambilight feature is great. To get a good picture quality does take abit of messing around in the settings, but once you've done that it works well.

My only criticism would be the remote, it's horrible and burns though batteries very quickly. (I'm replacing them like every month)

This seemed like a really good quality TV and the ambilights looked amazing, however my silly self decided not to look at the screen until after I’d set it up. As soon as I pulled the opaque cover off it I saw the very big and very deep smash in the bottom left corner :( Now I know this wasn’t me as I took every precaution possible to keep it safe so I can only assume it was damaged in transit when DPD delivered it, especially as the break was pretty bad so it must have been hit quite hard. Wanted to exchange it but sadly they’re out of stock so could only get a refund. If it had arrived working I’m sure it would’ve been a great TV but the carelessness taken during delivery you’re probably better off getting it in store or buying it directly from the company online (as I’m assuming they’d take more care with their own products?)

ambilight takes a bit of practice to get used to but quite relaxing.Took a few days to tweak picture to own likes but once done 4k is fantastic.Not used everything on set yet but so far this is one great bit of kit reccomend to all. price very good too.now had tv a while and i cn say that it is the best tv i have ever had picture is fantastic and all round wonderful set wou;d reccomen to all

My 43 inch PUS8545/12 is an excellent buy for the money. The ambilight is hands down the most appealing feature. I had been hesitant to take the plunge but after having the TV for over a month it still blows me away and I can't see myself going back! The swivel TV stand it comes with is really great too!
It definitely has some drawbacks though; the picture quality out of the box is fairly poor. However after some tinkering with the settings it can get to where I want it.
The sound is okay but would recommend investing in external speakers/soundbar to avoid tinny vibrations etc.
The remote control is responsive and the voice control feature is a welcome addition that is accurate too.
It had all the smart features and apps I need: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Spotify and YouTube which all work very well.
Despite the drawbacks, which for the price are expected, overall I'd definitely recommend this TV.

Don't buy for next gen gaming

I bought this TV to use with my PS5, but have refunded it because it managed to make 4k next gen gaming look awful.

Pros
- Ambilight is pretty cool, very immersive
- It's light and has a sturdy stand
- Speakers are pretty good for built in

Cons
- The refresh rate seems terrible
- The 4K image on all games I tried caused edges to become jagged and look really bad, like it was messing with the anti aliasing
- The remote control has extreme lag
- Do NOT recommend at all for use with the PS5 for 4K and HDR. I went back to my old 1080p 32" monitor and it looks 10x better

Was really looking forward to this tv and what a let down. Sound quality was ok but need a soundbar to get the best out of it.
Dolby vision only works through an external source such as an xbox series x. That looks stunning same as Disney+. But through the tvs smart apps the blacks are terrible grainy and patchy even in hd content. Bad hdr on compatible media such as netflix. If you are going to watch only 4k or dolby vision content then its great but anything else average at best. I'm a tech head and set up tv and video for people.
Most people plug in a tv and carry on but every tv needs fine tuning to get the best out of it.
Shame as the ambilight feature is great.
Sent it back as it was obviously used and repackaged. But still didn't want to replace it with another one and wouldn't go with phillips again
