Good thermometer for daily use at home, for whole family

Packaging-
Well done. Came intact.

Functionality-
Gives 2 age ranges to choose from before measuring the temperature (0-3 months, 3-36 months and 36 month+)
Gives a visual indicator as to whether the temperature is high (display goes red if high)

Accuracy-
I found it accurate in day to day use. Not precise to the dot, but acceptable if you want to make sure whether the baby has got fever or not. I also used 2 of the same thermometers, and they gave identical readings at the same time.

Practicality-
Simple to use. No running costs for lens filters. Can be used for babies, children and adults as well.

Final words-
Easy to use, relatively cheap and fairly accurate readings make this thermometer a must have. If you can get this for £10 or less, you have bagged a good deal!

Dangerously inaccurate

We have had this exact make and type of thermometer since my eldest was born six years ago. We had a couple and they worked great. We recently replaced it - the thermometer was giving wildly inaccurate readings - suggesting our whole family had body temperatures below 35 degrees. We assumed it was faulty and ordered another - which did the same. Then ordered one from Argos - same.

While it previously took 10 seconds to give a reading, it is now taking 30 and coming up with wrong and wildly fluctuating numbers, and sometimes not registering anything at all. I can only conclude something has changed in this product - it is now so wrong as to be not just useless but actively dangerous. We ordered an in-ear thermometer which is now giving us normal readings. We compared the two side by side - my daughter was 36.2 on the in-ear and 35.5 on this one. I was 36.6 on the in-ear and 34.5 on this!

I have written to Braun regarding this complaint, but please do not buy this product. And if your baby/child/anyone seems hot and you have this product giving you a reading that seems fine, don't trust it.

Inaccurate thermometer

Having now had two of these sent and being returned, I am disappointed to say my experience with them has been bad.
Both units have shown an over reading of around 1 degree.
We bought this as a method to check our son's temperature as his illness requires us to stay in hospital with any sign of fever. Needless to say, these thermometers would have resulted in unnecessary trips to hospital..

I decided to upgrade my older thermometer to a new braun as I need accurate temp readings with my current condition recovering from a stem cell transplant. The Braun gives massively different readings from under arm to under tongue (my normal method) and is wildly different by 0.5c compared to my current measure. I need to call an emergency number if my temp is above a certain level so this thermometer is useless and I am sending it back. 36.7C v 37.2C is unacceptable and first time I used it under tongue I was almost reaching for the phone. Now I don’t trust the thermometer one bit.

Celsius Temperatures Only

Given the current pandemic affecting most of the world, and that walk in PCR tests, (and over Christmas, Lateral Flow Tests too), have been hard to come by, we thought that a thermometer might not be a bad idea to buy, given that one of the symptoms is running a high temperature.

Being of an age that knows body temperature should be 98.4 deg. F, I wasn’t overly impressed that this thermometer only gave temperatures in Celsius, however, even an old curmudgeon like myself could understand that if the display was backlit with a green light, your temperature was fine, (regardless of being in deg. C), an amber backlight means that you are running a bit of a temperature, and a red backlight means you probably should be seeking medical attention.

Simple to use, aural, armpit, or…….. otherwise.

Ideal for youngs, olds, or anybody in between.

Volevo acquistare un termometro senza contatto ma poi, non convinto della precisione sulla rilevazione della temperatura, ho ripiegato su questo a contatto di Braun, tipo termometro clinico ma digitale.
Solo 8 secondi per dare la temperatura (emette un segnale acustico quando ha fatto) e - per quanto ho potuto constatare - grande accuratezza. Confrontato contemporaneamente con altri 2 termometri classici, lo scostamento è di soli 0,2 °C. Consigliato.

I liked the price for a well known maker, but found it a bit high for what it was in practice. It seems well made.

In practice as an adult taking my own temperature, I would have preferred a more simple way of getting an accurate temperature than having to recalculate the temperature by referring to the instruction sheet.

It worked well, which is the main point. However I did not find it an intuitive / obvious way of working unless you had read the instruction booklet.
I was glad that the buttons were not completely in places where you hold the unit.
I personally disliked the method of selecting adult /child etc. I think it was because most of the time (ie indoors) the light to see the display is actually off. and harder to see. Some might say that saves battery power - which is true, but I would have preferred the light on more. I think that for general home use, there is not going to be much use and the battery is sufficient.
However, I would have preferred the design and construction to take a 'typical' battery size like AAA instead of the 'computer' type battery.
Finally, I liked the plastic guard idea to keep clean the end that goes in the mouth. It also stops damage.
It did however cause me to wonder if it could be designed in a way that the unit kept clean both 'the end' and also the plastic guard which has a 'hard to reach' end when cleaning.

Easy to use but not accurate

I’ve been using the thermometer for nearly 4 weeks now, it’s a simple one, easy to use, change settings and read but it’s not accurate. Giving completely different readings after after using it multiple times at the same place (armpit). I would have loved to replace my old school mercury thermometer but probably will stick to it for now. At least that’s definitely showing the correct temperature.

I bought this to replace another thermometer that was not giving correct readings for ear/head so I decided on one that can be used under the armpit. My daughter is 20 months old and since starting nursery regularly has colds so accuracy is vital.
Firstly this product has to be reset to the correct age everytime you use it. Wouldn't mind if there was a light to see what you were doing as I'm mainly taking my daughters temperature at night. Definitely not easy for the grandparents to use either. As previously mentioned, if you need to use it again for whatever reason, you have to switch it off and go through the age range again. Waste of money and waste of time. I would definitely not recommend this product. Disappointed especially as it's from a well known brand.

The beeps are rather quiet. And the cover is only held on by friction - ideally it should have been a 'click' closure - but it will no doubt be fine. The thick instruction booklet (95 pages! 14 languages) is a bit of a waste. And you need a magnifying glass to read the text in the booklet as the text is so tiny. I checked my temperature (feeling normal) and the reading was normal so the thermometer may be reading reasonably accurately. And beware - the red, amber green backlighting ONLY applies for underarm readings - check the table in the booklet for normal, elevated or high temperatures for other location readings.
