I cant see why my daughter would need the safety guards as her legs are way to long for them to be of any use. I think they are meant for younger kids as my 8 year old has no problem keeping her feet on the pedals and knowing that she cant let her feet come off them.
One thing to remember is always fasten the belt even when your child is not on the bike. I have twice started to cycle with belt undone and its jammed into my gears. Now its all frayed, but that I suppose is my fault. Finally, when you are putting it together, its much easier to watch the Youtube video of a guy doing it. Its not official, but its good and the instructions are a waste of time.
UPDATE 11/05/17
Been a few weeks now, and I will have to amend my review. The seat has started to slope backwards. The clamps have not slipped, as I marked them with a piece of tape and had the extra clamps on. I think something is bending and I don't know what it is. Anyway, I've now fitted a bike pannier which the seat is about 1 cm off. When we go out, I just fit a little piece of sponge underneath to stop the seat banging on the pannier when we go over bumps, but I can now rest in peace and enjoy it. She loves it.

Building was honestly the only down side. It’s perfect as a lot of seats didnt fit my heritage step through bike, also my seat is as low down as it can go as I’m only 5”2 which hinders the fit of a lot of other seats. This one it doesn’t matter, fits perfect with my seat right down. Can be fitted with or without a pannier rack, one of the things I was worried about since my bike had one fitted when bought but if anything it helps stabilise his weight. My son is 4 but big for his age in size 6-7 clothes so was also a struggle to find a seat he wouldn’t grow out of quickly, some of the children’s seats are 0-3y which isn’t ideal so I’m pleased this one is for bigger sized children. It’s sturdy, has growing room For the next couple of years, he can ride his own bike but not good on long cycles. The wheel guards and foot pedals stop him from putting his feet through the wheels and causing an accident or him to injure himself, there are hooks at the back so you can add extra straps for stability and safety. I bought the red kite harness and reigns from Asda (£5) just for a bit more stability for him, the lap seat belt was secure enough but the added harness just keeps him in place and stops him leaning forward. The fold down option is perfect as the intended purpose was to cycle him to nursery on my way to uni so I can lock my bike up and fold down the seat discreetly without storage being an issue and allows me to use it as pannier rack when he’s not on the back. It has rubber bits around fittings to stop and scratches on bike (I still scratched mine but that was my own fault with the initial instillation, if you’re more handy with tools shouldn’t be an issue). All in all, very happy with the purchase. Good price compared to other children’s seats which don’t go upto his age rage, or cheaper seats that have less safety features like wheel guards and seatbelts. Honestly the wheel guards and pedals have been a saving grace as my son is a normal 4 year old and doesn’t like to listen with things like that. He definitely would have put his foot through the wheel spokes if it wasn’t for the guards! Highly recommend

Where the 'legs' of the seat attach to the rear frame forks I constantly find that the fasteners slip down. My daughter is around 15kg so well below what the seat is rated to carry. It seems impossible to tighten the bolts enough. Through constant tightening the allen bolts have now rounded off and the bike frame has scratch marks down it where the metal of the fittings has cut through the protective rubber.
These fixings also interfere with the gear cable and when they slip, or rotate (allowing the seat to tilt) it restricts the operation of the gears.
Seemed good at first and is a nice concept folding flat to double as a bike rack however, I will now be purchasing a different brand that will sit on a heavy duty bike rack. Hopefully I can recoup some of the cost of this from selling it on ebay...

As others have noted, the instructions are awful, it takes a hour to fit via youtube.
Otherwise the product is very useful.
Watch out for the seat belt; if you forget to clip it, it can get tangled in the wheel.
Also be aware the bike is far less stable. A 10 kg bike with a 30 kg load at the back will obviously tip if you let it. This can also be an issue if you are going up a very steep hill, or a sudden ramp. The bike will want to do a wheelie.
